Attention Lexington Two employees, Lex2 will be moving to a new email system Monday afternoon/evening (June 13, 2011). While your email address will not change, you will have a new email password. Your building supervisor (Principal, Asst Principal, etc) will have your new password.
The school guidance program consists of classroom guidance, small group counseling, individual counseling, consultation with teachers/parents and sponsoring/organizing whole school guidance activities.
Classroom Guidance is provided for students on a rotating basis. Classes cover standards under the headings of "Learning to Live," "Learning to Learn," and "Learning to Work." I send home half sheets with the students each time I visit their class to tell you, their parents, what we did in class that day. You can use those papers as topics for dinner conversations. These sheets also include a part to tear off at the bottom and return with an anecdote about how your child has displayed the topic covered in class. My goal is to support the learning experience at school by teaching strategies to manage emotions, get along with others, study effectively and explore careers to help students look toward their futures.
Small groups are offered for students who need more consentrated help with social issues such as anger management, self-control, anxiety/stress management, friendship, dealing with grief in regard to divorce or death, and study skills. Teachers recommend students and groups are formed every 6 weeks. Parents are also encouraged to recommend their children as needed, as well as student self-referral. Parent forms are stapled to agendas after each group session to enable you to follow up with strategies at home.
Individual counseling is done on a short term basis by parent, teacher or student referral. After several sessions, the counselor will assess the student's need and contact the parent if a referral to longer term help is appropriate.
Feel free to contact me at any time at 755-7441 or nankas@lex2.org. I would be happy to support you and your child in making this a successful school year.

Winter
As I stood outside on car duty this morning, in my down jacket, with my hood up, my body could tell that winter is trying to arrive! As a summer person, that realization is never fun for me but you have to get through winter to get back to summer, so bring it on!
Turkeys have been eaten and the holiday rush has kicked into full gear! These will be very busy 3 weeks at school and 4 weeks in all of our homes. There is much to be done academically, however, even amid all the building excitement, so be sure to make sure your child(ren) get enough sleep each night and continue to monitor agendas, homework and studying for tests. We change from focusing on Thankfulness to Caring in the month of December. As we do all that needs to be done in this hectic month, let's remember that the meaning of the season is caring and giving. As a family, talk about ways to demonstrate this important trait this month, forming a life long habit. Also, as things get hectic, remind your child(ren) to continue to "Manage Their Impulsivity" and demonstrate "Persistence" at school...Habits of MInd that will enabe them to be successful in whatever they choose to accomplish in life.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Cayce Cares Food Drive
Thank you so much for your generosity in donating food for "Cayce Cares." We were able to present over 800 cans/boxes of non-perishable food! What a blessing that food will be this holiday season to people in need. We appreciate that even though times are harder for all of us than in years past, you still reached into your hearts and provided help for those in greater need. May your heart rejoice in this holiday season as ours do when we think of your gift.

Career Day
Career Day was a succes due mainly to the many parents who sacrificed their time to come and speak to our students about their careers. We had 10 of the 16 S.C. Career Clusters represented! Many speakers brought lots of interesting materials with them to help the students understand their careers and to make the presentation fun. If you were not able to join us this year, I hope you will consider being a speaker next year. There are lots of refreshments and you will have a Student Council Member to be your guide the entire time you are here. Be looking for the interest letter at the beginning of next school year.
Our parade was also a success as many students dressed up to represent all kinds of interesting careers. It's exciting to imagine the "wonderful places they will go," in the words of Dr. Seuss!
Creating a Drug Free World The site includes short videos of students who learned that the things they were told to make them take drugs were lies. it also includes lots of information on the effects of drugs and testimonials from those who wish they had never begun taking drugs.
Empowering Parents This site has a wealth of helpful information for parents on almost any issue .
Howard B. Wigglebottom and Listening You can read several books about Howard B. Wigglebottom and listening and then play some fun games that are educational as well.
Know It All The Career Aisle section of this website gives you the 16 state Career Clusters and selected videos of different careers within each cluster. It is a great place to go with your child to create excitement about a future career.
State Standards This site gives the state standards taught in your child's classroom, in a "parent friendly" manner.
Stop Bullying Now Short webisodes illustrate the hurt caused by bullying. It is a very helpful site for those who are being bullied.
The Safe Side It is website created by John Walsh (America's Most Wanted) and Julie Clark (Baby Einstein) which sells a DVD called "Stranger Safety" and one called "Internet Safety." You can download information for free as well on how to talk with your child about these two important issues.
